Letter discovery provides lost window on life in 1980s Sheffield
When Mary Givens discovered her old letters in her childhood box room it was like discovering an old diary.
She said: “I was quite shocked at some of the content and when I asked around I seemed to be the only person that had hung onto everything - and I mean everything!”
Mary Givens, who has just celebrated her 50th birthday, is set to unveil her first book, ‘With Love From Sheffield’ which will be a collection of her letters and photos from the 1980s.
Mary Givens said: “I probably wrote more letters than most as I spent a lot of time working away in Guernsey so I was always keen to keep up with news in Sheffield. I was always back for Christmas and birthdays so there’s lots about nights out in places like Josephine’s, Romeo & Juliet’s and other nightspots of the era.”
‘With Love From Sheffield’ is set to be launched at the end of this month.
